In June of 2005, a good friend of mine gave birth while my family and I were out of town. To congratulate her and welcome her new baby, I called many baby stores in her area to hopefully order a custom baby basket and request to have it delivered to the hospital.
Most were able to create the baskets with the budget I wanted to spend but, unfortunately were unable to actually deliver it. None of the stores that were contacted were unable to do a delivery service. I was amazed because there are quite a few baby stores here in Hawaii. With much disappointment, I settled for sending a flower arrangement which I knew would bring well wishes but surely would not last.
In October 2005, my son was born and we too also received numerous arrangements, both floral and even edible ones at the hospital ... all so very beautiful. We were absolutely grateful to receive each and every one. But soon enough, the flowers attracted bugs then wasted away … which wasn’t good for our new baby. The edible arrangements were very enjoyable and I loved every bite, but it’s something a new mom should NOT be eating in hopes to get back to “pre-baby” weight.
It was then when I realized that there had to be other congratulations or welcome new baby gift options. I wanted to provide gifts which mommies and daddies could use for themselves or for their new baby AND also provide a convenient way to get it to them whether the sender was across the miles or just a zip code away. But anyone can throw things in a basket, wrap it up and have it delivered. I wanted to do something different that set me apart from everyone else.
My ideas took a temporary backseat to balance work and parenthood. I finally got back into the swing of things and got serious about my ideas when my daughter was born which was this past June. I began looking at baby items, many very adorable and handmade. It was then I realized what could set me apart from all the rest … my own personal touch.
I began researching for creative and unique items and even making some of them myself. I asked many people for their opinions about the items I made without mentioning it was an idea for a future business. I only shared that I made them for my children. Many suggested that I sell these items and would also purchase them if I did.
So on January 1, 2008 at the grand opening of bouncing baby baskets they and many other new patrons will soon be able to do just that! This wouldn’t be possible without the help of my dear and generous family and friends so I sincerely thank them for being a part of my new endeavor.
